Sugozu Thermal Power Plant
Cooling Water System
ARTI Proje provided consultancy services
to ENVY Inc. for the design of cooling water intake and discharge
systems of Sugozu Thermal Power Plant.
The studies focused mainly on the
selection of optimum disharge location. It is a common risk in power
plant projects that due to hydrodynamic conditions the intake water
could be adversely affected by the dicharge temperature and as a
result the overall performance of the plant may decrease
significantly. Circulation of water in the project area, location of
the discharge point and diffuser characteristics are the main
parameters controlling the fate of the discharged heat.
In Sugozu project, the hydrodynamics
of the project area and the heat transport imposed by discharge water
were studied by means of numerical modeling. The hydrodynamic model
setup for Sugozu area was calibrated against current and water level
measurements and used in estimating the seasonal current velocities in
the area. Finally, the diffuser of the disharge line was designed for
optimum performance using forecasted current velocities. |
